It is generally agreed that installing new carpet throughout a rental unit constitutes maintenance, not repair. However, if patching a carpet with no longer a deductible repair, the carpet must be amortized over the property's useful life, with the exclusions listed below.
The indentation can be revitalized by placing an ice cube (or several, depending on its size). The ice should be allowed to thaw in the crease. Because of the carpet's ability to absorb water, it will start to swell. Then, dab the area with a sponge to remove excess water, and use a coin to lift the carpet back carefully.
When the carpet is dirty, the tiniest pieces of dust, dirt, and grime grind and scrape against the carpet fibres with every step. Carpet fibres wear down and get frayed due to the same friction and grinding that created them.
The quality of your carpet and how you care for it will determine how long it lasts. A high-quality carpet can survive for twenty years or more if properly cared for properly. Wool and nylon carpets are the most durable.
