Pavers are inherently low-maintenance, but sealing them requires more maintenance over time. Water-based sealants must be reapplied every three to five years, while acrylic sealants must be reapplied every two to three years.
The good news is that pavers are recognized for their longevity and durability. With proper care and maintenance, pavers made of clay, concrete, natural stone, or even porcelain can last 20 to 25 years without requiring significant repairs. Concrete pavers can last up to fifty years if adequately maintained and sealed.
Most professionals advise delaying at least 24 to 48 hours before sealing newly installed pavers. This lets the pavers settle and ensures they are dry before closing. If you reside in an area with heavy rain or snow, you should delay sealing the brick pavers even longer.
Clear the room. Remove any furniture, planters, or other objects atop the pavers. Clean up any vegetation. Remove any weeds that have grown between the paver seams. Wet down the pavers. Create a gentle, non-acidic cleansing solution. Scrub the pavers with care. Clean the pavers with water.
