If a shingle has a little fracture or tear, you can fix it instead of replacing it. First, run a substantial bead of roofing sealant under the crack to seal it. The second bead of sealant should be applied on top of the crack as the shingle is pressed down. Use a putty knife to distribute the sealant evenly.
It is possible to fix only a particular area of your roof, so don't worry. Your trusted roofer may be able to fix the damaged area on the same day they diagnose the problem if it is possible to do so.
